Middle Managers
- You have a boss and -- likely -- you have teams of people working for you.
- You probably got your job in the first place because you were good at something... and that does not necessarily have anything to do with what you are doing now.
- Maybe you're new in the position and you're trying to figure out how to proceed.
- Maybe you've been there a while but you still feel slapped up side the head with stuff you didn't expect.
Remember that TV show "The Greatest American Hero?" That guy got a suit that gave him super powers. But he had no idea how to use it. He lost the instructions!
Remember the little kid in the alley who said, "Hey, Mister. If you wanna fly you have to run and then jump."
Every kid who ever watched a Superman show knew that. So how did our hero miss the obvious connection?
Here's the key:
When you feel powerless, you forget what you know.
- When you're up to your eyeballs,
- or feeling put upon,
- when you can't tell any more whether a task really is important or
- does it just seem like it because somebody keeps asking about it.
- Is this really the next thing required?
Don't you just wish you could have that kid from the alley
helping you to see the obvious?
What really is important right now?
What must be done?
A coach can be just like that kid.
He can remind you what you know
and help you make plans based on that.
If you think a coach might help, give me a call right now. (410-233-3274 I'm in Baltimore, Maryland) If it's daylight on the east coast, I'm here. If I'm not, leave a number, I'll call you back. Ask me some questions. See if we might find a way to put together an instruction book that will work for you!
If you still sorta thinking about it, use this form.
But here's a word of advice.
Talking to somebody -- who won't get you in trouble -- is better than talking to some guy (and whoever else is listening) by the water cooler.
You don't have to sign up for coaching for the rest of your life. Maybe just a couple months.
What would it be like to get all those ideas, all that stuff sorted out?
What would your life be like then?
